Glass lampwork beads are to be distinguished from seed beads and pressed glass beads, both of which are made by machines. All Mimi Venezia jewelry is handmade working in the Venetian Glass Lampwork tradition. The artist works with a gas burner (the ‘lamp’) which produces a steady, narrow and powerful flame. The glass is melted into a honey-like consistency and manipulated with tools to give its shape. Different coloured glasses are used, and a number of techniques are used to give each bead its unique shape and design. The result is a work of exceptional detail, a piece of handmade jewelry ready to be worn and admired.
